Frank Hassenewert
Frank Hassenewert studied architecture at the University of Technology Berlin. Before
receiving his Master in Architecture (Diplom Ingenieur), he was gifted a full scholarship
of the DAAD for the Architectural School of Architecture (AA), London.
After finishing his studies he started his career in the office of Prof. Jürgen Sawade
in Berlin. He worked on projects like Unter den Linden Offices, Airport Hotel Esplanade
and the Spreeufer Office Buildings.
In 1993 he became registered architect. He is member of the chamber of architects in
Berlin and in Nordrhein Westfalia.
After successful participation in several architectural competitions, in 1994 he founded
the office frank HASSENEWERT architekt. In 1995 he built a partnership and
was comissioned with projects for the Berlin Senat. The architectural office
frank HASSENEWERT architect has been working on housing projects since 1997,
with varying partners. Frank Hassenewert won various prizes for his contributions in invited and
public architectural competitions.
In 1997 he also began to explore his passion for Science Fiction movies on a theoretical base
and published his thoughts in lectures and writings.
Besides the work in his office Frank Hassenewert began teaching as Assistant Professor at
the University of Technology Berlin in 1999. Based in the School of Architecture, Department
of Construction and Design,
he teached undergraduate students and gave design clases for graduate students.
In 2003 interrupted his work at the University of Technology Berlin and started to teach
and research at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu USA.
As Assistant Professor for Design and Construction he developed his research in
design methodology in studios and seminars. Regarding the Introduction into architectural
design his major concern still was sensual perception of architectural space. Above that he
developed teaching concepts concerning the complex relationship of functions in building programms.
In his design studios he tested and verifyed these design methods.
As a research project Frank Hassenewert at present analyses his experience and the results
of his teaching in designmethodology.
